Zyrtec for Hives: What You Should Know

Zyrtec is a brand name for cetirizine, an oral antihistamine. Hives form when cells in the skin release histamine and other chemical signals. By blocking histamine at its receptor, cetirizine can reduce itch and help raised, pink or skin-coloured welts settle. It treats symptoms rather than identifying or removing the trigger.

Some people feel sleepy after cetirizine, even though it is generally considered less sedating than older antihistamines.
