Z Wave is commonly described as a radial shockwave or acoustic-wave treatment. A handpiece delivers mechanical energy through the skin over selected areas. The aim is to influence tissue texture and the appearance of cellulite rather than remove a specific amount of fat. Cellulite reflects the interaction of fat compartments, connective-tissue bands, skin elasticity, and body shape, so it can occur in people of different sizes.

The treatment is cosmetic and does not treat a painful, swollen, or newly changing lump.
