Yeast rash on legs: symptoms and what to do

The rash may be brighter red in creases, under clothing edges or between areas that rub together. Small spots near the main patch can occur. Scratching can break the skin and increase soreness. A leg rash can also come from contact irritation, eczema, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies or heat rash, so appearance alone cannot confirm yeast.

Gently wash the area and pat it dry rather than rubbing. Choose loose, breathable clothing and change out of damp clothes after exercise. Avoid sharing towels, and do not apply steroid cream alone to a suspected fungal rash unless a clinician has advised it. A pharmacist or clinician can help select an antifungal product and explain how to use it on intact skin.

Arrange medical advice if the rash is spreading, very painful, warm, draining, cracked or not improving with appropriate care. Seek prompt help for fever, rapidly worsening redness, facial swelling, breathing trouble or feeling faint. People with diabetes, reduced immunity or repeated episodes should obtain personalised advice earlier.
