How to get rid of xanthelasma

Xanthelasma is a soft yellow or cream-coloured deposit that commonly appears near the inner corners of the eyelids. It may occur on one or both sides and can be flat or slightly raised. A clinician can examine the area to confirm the diagnosis because other eyelid lesions can look similar. The deposit itself is not something to scrape, squeeze, or treat with household acids.

Arrange a dermatology assessment before choosing a removal method. The clinician may discuss resurfacing with CO2 laser or removal by excisional surgery, depending on the deposit's depth, position, skin characteristics, and whether nearby eyelid tissue needs careful protection. These procedures can change skin colour or leave a mark, so aftercare and sun protection matter. A medical review may also include a lipid check or discussion of conditions that affect cholesterol; treating those factors supports general health but does not reliably erase an existing deposit.
