What should you know about Xanax itching?

Itching can occur with a drug reaction, but it can also come from dry skin, eczema, contact with an irritant, infection, or another cause. A medicine-related reaction may appear with hives or a widespread rash, while eczema often brings dryness and inflamed patches. The itch itself does not identify one diagnosis.

A clinician will ask when the itching began, whether the Xanax dose or other medicines changed, where the symptoms are located, and whether there is swelling, fever, blistering, or skin peeling. Keep a record of new soaps, foods, supplements, and medicines.

Contact the prescriber or pharmacist promptly for advice about your next dose; do not stop a regularly used benzodiazepine suddenly without medical guidance. Use a bland, fragrance-free moisturiser, keep showers lukewarm, and avoid scratching or new scented products while waiting for advice.

Get emergency help for difficulty breathing, throat or tongue swelling, faintness, or rapidly spreading hives. Seek urgent assessment for blistering, skin peeling, painful rash, sores in the mouth or eyes, facial swelling, fever, confusion, or severe weakness.
