Why is laparoscopic surgery system used in diagnostic laparoscopy?

The system combines a narrow camera, a light source, a monitor, and specialised instruments. The camera sends images to the screen so the surgeon can inspect organs such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel surface, and peritoneum.

Carbon dioxide is usually used to gently create working space inside the abdomen. This allows the camera to move and the surgeon to examine areas that may not be explained by an external examination or scan. If a finding needs sampling, an instrument may be used during the same procedure when this is appropriate.

Follow instructions about fasting, medicines, and bathing before surgery. Tell the team about pregnancy possibility, allergies, previous operations, and conditions affecting breathing or blood clotting. Arrange an adult to take you home if advised.

Afterwards, shoulder-tip discomfort, bloating, tiredness, or soreness around the small incisions can occur. Keep the wounds clean as instructed, move gently, and follow the specific limits on driving, lifting, and exercise.

Seek urgent advice for worsening abdominal pain, fever, repeated vomiting, heavy vaginal bleeding, faintness, shortness of breath, a swollen painful leg, or redness and discharge from an incision. These symptoms need assessment after laparoscopy.

Ask what areas will be examined, whether a biopsy or treatment may be possible, how anaesthesia will be managed, when you can return to routine activities, and how you will receive the findings.
