It moves against a plastic bearing attached to the shin component, creating a controlled contact surface. The alloy’s hardness and strength help it maintain its shape during everyday bending and walking.

Preserving the other compartments and some natural ligaments can support a more natural-feeling knee for selected patients. The implant still depends on accurate alignment, healthy remaining cartilage, stable ligaments, and suitable bone.

Before surgery, ask which compartment is damaged and whether the remaining cartilage and ligaments are healthy enough for a partial replacement. Review medication instructions, home support, exercises, and expected weight-bearing with your team. During recovery, follow the prescribed physiotherapy plan and gradually build strength rather than forcing a painful bend.

Call your surgical team for increasing swelling, wound drainage, spreading redness, fever, uncontrolled pain, or a knee that suddenly gives way. Seek urgent help for severe calf pain or swelling, chest pain, or marked difficulty breathing. At any stage, a new inability to put weight through the leg deserves prompt assessment.
