Why does unexplained infertility cause trouble getting pregnant?

Trouble Getting Pregnant is a very common presentation of Unexplained Infertility. The term is used after an evaluation has not found an obvious cause, such as blocked fallopian tubes, absent ovulation or a clear sperm-related concern. It does not mean that nothing is happening; conception involves several linked steps, and routine tests cannot measure every step directly.

Possible contributors may include small changes in egg release, egg or sperm function, timing, embryo development or the interaction between the embryo and the uterine lining. These possibilities are not a diagnosis, and the label can change if new information appears.

Discuss the results of both partners' assessments with a fertility specialist. The review may cover ovulation patterns, fallopian-tube openness, semen findings, medicines, cycle timing and health conditions. Depending on your situation, options can include continued timed attempts, medicines that support ovulation, insemination or in-vitro fertilisation. Ask how each option fits your age, preferences, emotional wellbeing and budget.

Seek fertility advice when pregnancy has not occurred after a sustained period of trying, or earlier if cycles are very irregular, there is known endometriosis, previous pelvic infection, repeated pregnancy loss or a concern about sperm production. Contact a clinician promptly for severe pelvic pain, fever, heavy bleeding or symptoms of an acute illness.
