Why Does a TFCC Tear Cause Wrist Pain?
Short answer
Wrist Pain is a common presentation of TFCC Tear because damaged cartilage and supporting tissues can become painful when the wrist bears load or rotates.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

The TFCC's role in the wrist
The triangular fibrocartilage complex, or TFCC, supports the small-finger side of the wrist and helps the forearm bones move together during rotation. A tear can irritate nearby tissues and reduce comfortable load sharing. Pain may be felt on the little-finger side, with clicking, reduced motion, or discomfort when turning a key, opening a jar, pushing up from a chair, or lifting. Similar symptoms can arise from a sprain, tendon problem, arthritis, or a forearm issue, so a clinical examination is needed to identify the source.
Early ways to protect the wrist
Avoid movements that repeatedly twist or load the painful wrist, and use the other hand for heavier tasks where possible. Keep the wrist supported in a comfortable neutral position; a clinician can advise whether a splint is suitable. Gentle finger and elbow movement can reduce stiffness without stressing the wrist. After assessment, treatment may include a gradual return of motion and strengthening, guided by symptoms and the suspected tear. Do not repeatedly test the wrist with forceful pushing or twisting.
When to seek care
Arrange prompt assessment after a fall, forceful twist, visible swelling, or a sudden change in wrist movement. Seek urgent care for a cold or discoloured hand, new numbness, severe deformity, or inability to move the fingers. A routine review is appropriate when pain persists, clicking is painful, grip is declining, or everyday activities remain difficult despite protecting the wrist.

Questions people ask
Can a TFCC tear cause clicking?
Yes. A tear may be associated with clicking or catching, especially during forearm rotation, although clicking can have other causes.
Should I exercise through wrist pain?
Avoid forceful or sharply painful loading until the wrist has been assessed and a gradual rehabilitation plan is clear.
