Why does prediabetes cause frequent urination?

The kidneys filter the blood throughout the day and normally return useful substances, including most glucose and water, to the bloodstream. If blood glucose is higher than the kidneys can fully reabsorb, glucose can remain in the urine. It attracts water, so the bladder fills more often and you may pass larger amounts of urine. Fluid loss can also make you thirsty.

Frequent Urination is a common presentation of Prediabetes. However, urinary frequency may also be linked to drinking more fluid, caffeine, a urine infection, pregnancy, prostate symptoms, bladder conditions, or medicines. The pattern and associated symptoms help identify the cause.
