Why does lymphoma cause an armpit lump?

Armpit Lump is a common presentation of Lymphoma. Lymph nodes are small immune-system structures that filter lymph fluid. Lymphoma begins in lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, and the affected cells can collect inside a node. This may make the node feel enlarged under the skin. The lump may be painless, firm or rubbery, and one or more nodes can be involved.

An armpit lump has many possible explanations, including infection, inflammation, a skin problem, or another non-cancerous change. The location alone cannot identify its cause. A clinician considers how long it has been present, whether it is changing, and whether you have other symptoms.

Arrange a medical appointment for a lump that persists, grows, feels hard or fixed, or has no clear explanation. The clinician may examine both armpits and nearby areas, ask about recent illness and medicines, and decide whether imaging or a tissue sample is appropriate. Do not repeatedly squeeze or massage the lump, because this can irritate the area and make changes harder to judge.

Seek prompt medical advice if the lump is accompanied by unexplained fever, drenching night sweats, unintentional weight loss, marked tiredness, or several enlarged nodes. Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, severe weakness, or rapidly worsening illness. These symptoms have several possible causes, but they warrant timely assessment.
