Why does hypoglycaemia cause excessive sweating?

Short answer
Most people with Hypoglycaemia notice excessive sweating because falling blood glucose triggers adrenaline and other warning responses that activate sweat glands.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why low glucose causes sweating
The brain needs a steady supply of glucose. When glucose falls, the nervous system releases hormones such as adrenaline to raise it and alert you to the change. This response can cause cold or clammy skin, shaking, hunger, a pounding heartbeat, anxiety, dizziness, or difficulty concentrating. Sweating may begin before more serious effects on thinking occur.
Low glucose can result from diabetes medicine, missed or delayed meals, alcohol, unusual exercise, or illness. Sweating alone cannot identify the cause, and similar symptoms can occur with heat, panic, infection, or other conditions.
What to do during symptoms
If you have diabetes and can check glucose, follow your personalised hypo plan. If you are awake and able to swallow, use the fast-acting carbohydrate recommended by your care team, then recheck or monitor as instructed and eat a longer-lasting snack if advised. Do not give food or drink to someone who is drowsy, confused, or unable to swallow; use prescribed rescue treatment and seek emergency help.
When to seek care
Get urgent help for confusion, seizure, loss of consciousness, inability to swallow, or symptoms that do not improve with your agreed treatment. Arrange a review after repeated episodes, unexplained sweating, or a change in diabetes medicine, meals, alcohol use, or exercise.
Questions for your doctor
Ask what glucose readings count as low for you, how to adjust food and medicine around exercise, and when to use rescue treatment. Discuss whether episodes could have another cause and how family or colleagues should respond if you become unable to swallow.

Questions people ask
Is sweating proof of hypoglycaemia?
No. Sweating has many causes, so glucose testing and the full symptom pattern are needed when possible.
Why can a hypo make the heart race?
The same adrenaline response that activates sweating can increase the heartbeat and cause shaking or anxiety.
