Why house dust mite allergy can cause a blocked nose

House dust mites are tiny organisms commonly found in bedding, soft furnishings and household dust. In a sensitised person, contact with mite particles can prompt the immune system to release chemicals that inflame the inside of the nose. The swelling can make airflow feel restricted, and mucus may add to the sensation of congestion. Blocked Nose is a common presentation of House Dust Mite Allergy, although colds, sinus problems and structural changes inside the nose can cause similar symptoms.
