Why does dermatofibroma cause skin lumps?

A dermatofibroma is a benign fibrous skin growth. It often feels firm rather than soft and may look pink, brown, or darker than nearby skin. The surface can become more noticeable when the surrounding skin is gently pinched. These growths commonly occur on the limbs and may follow a minor injury or insect bite, although a clear trigger is not always present.
