Why does amoebiasis cause diarrhoea?

The colon normally reabsorbs water from digestive contents. Infection with the amoeba that causes amoebiasis can irritate and injure its lining, leaving more water in the stool and creating urgency, cramps, mucus, or loose bowel movements. Diarrhoea is a very common presentation of Amoebiasis. Many other illnesses can cause diarrhoea, including viruses, food-related illness, medicine side effects, and other gut conditions.
