Which specialist treats psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin condition that can cause persistent red, raised, or scaly areas. A dermatologist examines the skin, scalp, and nails, asks about flare patterns and treatments, and checks whether symptoms affect sleep or daily activities. Joint pain, swelling, or morning stiffness should be mentioned because psoriasis can occur with psoriatic arthritis and may require coordinated care.

Bring a list of medicines, creams, supplements, and previous treatments. Note where plaques occur and what triggers or relieves flares. Depending on the pattern, treatment may include topical corticosteroids, vitamin D analogue treatment, narrowband UVB phototherapy, PUVA therapy, methotrexate treatment, or biologic therapy. Do not stop prescribed medicine suddenly or apply steroid products to sensitive areas without instructions.
