Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy-related condition involving high blood pressure and signs that organs may be under strain. An obstetrician checks blood pressure, urine, blood tests, symptoms, and the baby’s growth and wellbeing. Monitoring may be arranged through antenatal care, day assessment, or hospital review depending on findings.

A maternal-fetal medicine specialist supports pregnancies with complex or severe problems. Anaesthesia, neonatology, and internal medicine teams may also contribute if birth planning or organ complications require their expertise.

Contact your maternity unit or obstetrician promptly if pre-eclampsia has been suspected, or if a clinician has asked you to monitor blood pressure. Keep antenatal appointments, take prescribed medicines as directed, and bring a list of medicines and home readings if you have them.

The team may discuss observation, blood-pressure treatment, tests, fetal monitoring, and the safest timing and method of birth. A caesarean section is one possible birth method, not an automatic requirement.
