A nebuliser changes prescribed liquid medicine into a fine mist that can be breathed through a mask or mouthpiece. The clinician chooses the medicine according to the problem being treated, such as airway narrowing or difficulty moving air. The equipment and treatment setting vary, so a nebuliser session is not a substitute for diagnosing the cause of breathlessness.
