Which specialist performs caesarean section?

A caesarean section is an operation to deliver a baby through incisions in the abdomen and uterus. The obstetrician leads the surgery. An anaesthetist provides and monitors the anaesthetic, while nurses, midwives, and operating-room staff assist with preparation and recovery. A clinician trained in newborn care may assess the baby after birth. Another obstetrician may assist or take over if the situation is complex or urgent.

If a caesarean is planned, ask your obstetrician why it is recommended, what anaesthetic is expected, and how recovery will be supported.
