Which specialist performs breast MRI?

Breast MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images. The radiographer or MRI technologist positions you and runs the scan. A radiologist reviews the images and prepares the clinical report. Contrast may be recommended for some examinations; if so, the team checks relevant medical information before it is given. A breast surgeon or other clinician may request the scan and use the report in your care plan.

Tell the MRI service about a pacemaker, metal fragments, implants, kidney problems, allergies, pregnancy, or possible pregnancy.
