Which specialist performs blood test?

Your general practitioner or another treating clinician decides which test is appropriate and provides the request. At the collection site, a trained phlebotomist, nurse, or other healthcare professional checks your details, cleans the skin, and draws blood into labelled tubes. The laboratory team processes the sample and reports findings to the requesting clinician. The clinician then interprets the result alongside your symptoms, examination, medicines, and medical history; a result outside the reference range does not by itself establish a diagnosis.

Check whether you need to fast or change the timing of a medicine; follow the instructions from the requesting clinician. Tell the collector if you feel faint around needles, and drink water unless you were told to restrict fluids. Seek urgent help for severe breathing trouble, collapse, confusion, or heavy bleeding after the procedure. Contact the clinic if redness, warmth, worsening pain, or discharge develops at the collection site, or if you have not received an expected result and need to know whether follow-up is required.

Ask what the test is checking, whether preparation is needed, when results should arrive, and who will explain them. Ask whether any abnormal finding needs repeat testing or another assessment.
