Many people with straightforward urgency and frequency can be assessed without invasive testing, so a clinician usually considers the symptom pattern, urine testing, medicines, and examination first.

Keep a short bladder diary if requested, including drinks, toilet visits, urgency, leakage, and nighttime waking.
