What does headache feel like with concussion?

Short answer
Headache is a very common presentation of Concussion and may feel like pressure, throbbing, or a steady ache.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Common pattern
- Pressure, throbbing, or a steady ache
- Possible triggers
- Activity, light, noise, and concentration
How it may feel
The pain can be across the forehead, at the temples, around the back of the head, or on one side. Some people describe a tight band or fullness rather than sharp pain. It may appear soon after a head impact or develop later, and concentration, screens, movement, bright light, or loud sound can make it more noticeable. Headache can occur with dizziness, slowed thinking, tiredness, nausea, or sensitivity to light and sound. The sensation alone cannot confirm concussion, because headaches have many possible causes.
What you can do
Reduce strenuous activity and take quiet breaks when symptoms increase. Keep the first day or two calm, then return gradually to ordinary tasks if they do not clearly worsen the headache. Drink fluids, eat regular meals, and limit alcohol. Do not drive, play contact sport, or return to a risky activity while you feel impaired. A clinician can advise which pain medicine is suitable for you, especially after a recent head injury or if you take blood thinners.
When to seek care
Get urgent medical help for a rapidly worsening or severe headache, repeated vomiting, increasing sleepiness, confusion, fainting, a seizure, weakness, numbness, trouble speaking, unequal pupils, or fluid or blood from the nose or ears. Arrange medical assessment after a head injury if symptoms persist, affect work or school, or you are unsure whether the injury was minor. Symptoms after concussion can change, so tell someone nearby what to watch for.
Questions for your doctor
When did the headache begin, and did it follow a blow, fall, or sudden movement? Does light, noise, exercise, or screen use change it? Which activities are safe today, and what warning signs should prompt urgent review?
