What Causes Pimples?

Hormonal shifts can increase oil production and make breakouts more likely around the jaw, chin or other oilier areas. Sweat, helmets, masks, tight clothing, oily products and repeated rubbing can trap heat or pressure against follicles. Some bumps that resemble pimples have another cause: folliculitis may produce many similar itchy spots, razor bumps can follow shaving, and rosacea or perioral dermatitis can cause red facial bumps without typical blocked pores.

Wash gently, avoid scrubbing, choose non-comedogenic products and keep hands away from active spots. Introduce one acne treatment at a time so irritation is easier to recognize. A clinician may consider hormonal options, LED light therapy or isotretinoin for selected patterns or more severe disease; isotretinoin requires careful medical supervision, pregnancy precautions and monitoring.
