What should you know about welby tens unit?

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. The device sends controlled pulses through adhesive electrodes placed on intact skin near, or sometimes around, a painful area. People commonly feel tingling, tapping, or buzzing rather than a strong muscle contraction. Relief varies and may last only while the device is running or for a period afterwards. TENS is an adjunct, so it should sit alongside assessment, movement, rehabilitation, or other treatment for the cause of pain.

A brand name does not change the basic safety principles. Read the device instructions and check that the pads, cables, and controls are undamaged before use.

Place electrodes on clean, dry, intact skin as directed, with space between pads. Start at a low intensity and increase only to a strong but comfortable sensation. Do not place pads across the front or sides of the neck, across the chest, over broken or infected skin, or directly over an implanted electronic device. Keep the unit switched off before moving pads, and remove electrodes if burning, rash, dizziness, or worsening pain develops. Ask a clinician before use if you have a pacemaker or other implant, reduced sensation, epilepsy, or are pregnant. TENS should not delay care for a new or unexplained symptom.

Stop using the unit and seek advice for a persistent skin reaction, blistering, electrical shock, or symptoms that become worse after treatment. Urgent care is needed for chest discomfort, fainting, severe shortness of breath, sudden weakness, or a new loss of sensation. If pain is persistent, spreading, associated with fever, or limiting function, arrange an assessment rather than repeatedly increasing the stimulation.
