What should you know about Vitalograph Pneumotrac spirometer?

The instrument records breathing as air passes through its measuring system, allowing the testing team to review flow and volume during forced exhalation. Its output is one part of spirometry, alongside test quality, reference values, symptoms, examination findings, and medical history. It should not be treated as a stand-alone diagnosis. Bring a list of medicines and follow the clinic’s instructions about inhalers and activity. Avoid arriving breathless from strenuous exertion unless the team has asked you to exercise. During testing, use the mouthpiece as shown, keep a tight lip seal, inhale fully, and exhale with a rapid, sustained effort. Coaching matters: tell the operator if you cough, cannot continue, feel dizzy, or have chest pain. The team may repeat manoeuvres to check consistency.

Seek emergency care for severe breathlessness, blue lips, collapse, new confusion, or intense or persistent chest pain. Contact a clinician soon for worsening wheeze, cough, breathlessness, or a noticeable reduction in usual activity. Do not wait for a scheduled spirometry result when symptoms are severe or rapidly changing.
