Skin tone, recent sun exposure, makeup, skincare products, facial movement, and image positioning can affect how a feature appears.

Arrive with a clean face if the clinic requests it, and tell the clinician about recent procedures, active irritation, prescribed creams, and your usual skincare. During the appointment, ask which findings are clearly visible, which are imaging signals that need examination, and how the images will be used to compare progress. A clinician should combine the scan with your history and a direct skin examination before recommending treatment.

Seek a clinical assessment for a changing, bleeding, crusting, painful, or persistently itchy spot rather than relying on an imaging report. New swelling, spreading redness, pus, fever, or sudden facial changes also deserve prompt medical attention. Imaging can support a consultation, but it should not delay examination of a concerning lesion.

Ask what each marked area represents, whether it needs a hands-on examination, and which changes would justify follow-up. You can also ask how repeat images will be standardized, whether a product or procedure could temporarily alter the appearance, and what treatment options address your main concern.
