What should you know about vertical lines on forehead from sleeping?

Short answer
Vertical forehead lines after sleeping may be temporary pressure marks, but persistent creases can also reflect movement, skin elasticity and sun exposure.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How sleep can affect the skin
Pressure from a pillow or a sleep position can fold the skin during the night. A mark that fades after you wash, moisturise or move around is more consistent with a temporary sleep crease. If the line remains through the day, repeated facial expressions and normal changes in skin support may be contributing as well.
The direction and location of a line do not prove that sleeping caused it. Dry skin can make a temporary crease look sharper, while squinting or lifting the brows may maintain forehead lines independently of sleep.
Practical steps
Use a gentle moisturiser after cleansing, protect the forehead from daily sun exposure and avoid aggressive rubbing. Notice whether the mark fades and whether it appears in the same place each morning. A comfortable sleep position is preferable to forcing a posture that disturbs rest.
If the line stays visible and bothers you, a qualified clinician can assess whether muscle movement is involved. Botulinum toxin treatment may be discussed for selected movement-related lines after a facial examination; it is not a way to correct every pressure mark.
When to seek care
Arrange medical advice if a forehead change is sudden, persistent and one-sided, or comes with facial weakness, numbness, severe headache, vision change or difficulty speaking. Seek urgent help for those neurological symptoms. A gradual line without other symptoms is usually suitable for a routine cosmetic consultation if you want one.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the mark looks temporary or etched, whether brow movement is contributing, what skin-care changes are reasonable for you, and how to judge a suitable treatment without changing your natural facial expression too much.

Questions people ask
Can sleeping on one side cause a permanent forehead line?
Pressure can create temporary creases, while a lasting line usually has more than one possible contributor and needs assessment if it persists.
Will changing my pillow remove the line?
A comfortable pillow and position may reduce pressure, but they cannot undo a crease maintained by facial movement or skin change.
