Underarm razor burn

Short answer
Underarm razor burn usually improves when shaving stops, the skin is cooled gently, and friction, fragrance, and picking are avoided.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Stop shaving until burning and tenderness settle.
- Do not do
- Pick, squeeze, scrub, or dig into bumps.
Razor burn or another problem?
Razor burn is irritation from shaving, pressure, repeated passes, or a dull blade. It may cause burning, redness, tenderness, and small irritated spots soon after hair removal. Ingrown Hairs can create individual itchy or painful bumps as a cut hair curves into the skin. Folliculitis may look like clusters of pimple-like spots around follicles. Razor Bumps and Keratosis Pilaris can also be confused with shaving irritation.
Calm the area and prevent more irritation
Rinse gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, and apply a cool clean compress for short periods. Stop shaving, waxing, fragranced deodorant, and exfoliating products until tenderness settles. Wear a loose top to reduce rubbing. Do not squeeze bumps or dig for trapped hairs. When you resume shaving, use clean equipment, shaving gel, light strokes in the direction of hair growth, and fewer passes. If frequent irritation continues, discuss Laser Hair Removal or another hair-removal plan with a qualified clinician.
When to seek medical care
Book a review if redness persists, bumps contain pus, pain increases, lumps recur, or the area becomes warm and swollen. Seek urgent care for rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, fever, or feeling unwell. A clinician can distinguish irritation from follicle inflammation and select treatment without worsening the skin.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the bumps are Ingrown Hairs or Folliculitis, which hair-removal method suits your skin, and when it is safe to shave again.
