What should you know about under belly rash?

Redness, soreness, burning, itch, scale, cracks, or small spots can occur when a fold stays warm and damp. Intertrigo and heat rash are common possibilities. A new soap, fabric, adhesive, or medicine may cause contact dermatitis or a drug rash. Atopic dermatitis and psoriasis can affect folds, while ringworm may form an expanding scaly edge. Scabies is more suggestive when intense itch affects other household members or several body areas.

The appearance, timing, symptoms, and recent exposures help separate these conditions. Avoid assuming that every fold rash is fungal or treating it with several products at once.

Gently wash the area, pat it fully dry, and change damp clothing. Choose loose, breathable fabric and reduce rubbing. Stop a newly introduced scented product if it stings or coincided with the rash. Avoid scratching and avoid steroid, antibiotic, or antifungal creams unless a clinician or pharmacist advises the specific product; the wrong treatment can mask the pattern or worsen some infections.

Arrange a review if the rash persists, recurs, spreads beyond the fold, develops scale or cracks, or does not improve with keeping the area dry. Seek prompt care for rapidly spreading redness, marked warmth, severe pain, pus, fever, blisters, skin peeling, or feeling unwell. A medication-related rash with facial swelling or breathing difficulty is an emergency.
