Understanding the nodule
A dermatofibroma is a firm, often slow-growing skin nodule that may dimple when pinched. It can follow a minor injury or insect bite and may be brown, pink, or skin-coloured. Ulceration means the surface has broken, which can happen after repeated friction or picking, but an ulcerated or changing lump should not be identified from appearance alone. Other skin conditions can look similar.
