What should you know about transient gestational hypertension?

Blood pressure can change during pregnancy, and a reading that is high may be temporary. Clinicians use repeat measurements and symptom checks to decide whether the elevation continues. Gestational hypertension is different from high blood pressure that began before pregnancy. It can occur without obvious symptoms, so antenatal appointments matter even when you feel well.

The team may also check urine and blood tests and assess the baby's growth and wellbeing. They are looking for signs that the condition is becoming more serious, including pre-eclampsia. A settling reading is reassuring but does not replace follow-up.
