What should you know about traction table for back pain?

Short answer
A traction table gently applies a pulling force to the spine under supervision, but it is not suitable for every cause of back pain.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How traction is used
You lie on a padded table while straps support part of your body. The machine applies and releases a measured pulling force, and the clinician observes your symptoms and comfort. The aim may be to reduce pressure or make movement easier for a short period; relief during a session does not identify the underlying cause.
Back pain has many possible sources. Lumbar spondylosis is one spinal condition that may be discussed during assessment, but a traction table should not replace a clinical examination or a personalised diagnosis.
Before and during a session
Tell the clinician about numbness, weakness, osteoporosis, recent injury, surgery, pregnancy, cancer, infection, or problems with bladder or bowel control. Wear comfortable clothing and report sharp pain, spreading symptoms, dizziness, or a change in strength immediately. Ask how traction fits alongside exercise, posture advice, and other treatment rather than relying on the table alone.
When to seek care
Seek urgent medical assessment for new loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, severe or progressive leg weakness, or back pain after major trauma. Prompt review is also needed for fever, unexplained weight loss, or pain that is severe and worsening.
Questions for your doctor
Ask what cause of back pain is being treated, what improvement will be monitored, how many sessions are reasonable to try, and which warning symptoms mean treatment should stop.

Questions people ask
Does traction cure back pain?
It may ease symptoms for some people, but it does not correct every underlying cause and should be part of an assessed plan.
Should traction hurt?
Tell the clinician if you feel sharp or spreading pain; force and positioning may need to be changed or treatment stopped.
