The microscope is a tool used during an operation, not a treatment by itself. The surgeon chooses whether it is appropriate for the procedure, based on the body area, the intended technique, and the need for a detailed view.

A surgical microscope combines binocular magnification, bright lighting, and a movable optical head. This can help the operating team distinguish tissue planes and work around delicate structures while maintaining a stable view. The exact features depend on the model and the operation.

Seeing through magnification does not remove the usual considerations of surgery. Anesthesia, the surgical approach, positioning, wound care, and rehabilitation still depend on your diagnosis and overall health. A microscope may be used in selected spine, nerve, ear, eye, or other finely detailed procedures.
