The mandible is the lower jaw. An implant may replace a damaged section, help restore the jaw contour, or provide a stable base for attached tissues or dental rehabilitation. Titanium is selected for its strength and body compatibility, but healing depends on the surrounding bone, soft tissues, oral health and the procedure performed.

Use mouth care, diet and activity instructions supplied by the maxillofacial team. You may need softer foods for a period while chewing structures recover. Take prescribed medicines as directed and attend wound, scan and dental reviews. Avoid smoking or nicotine because it can impair tissue healing. Report changes in bite, loosening sensations, persistent drainage or difficulty opening the mouth rather than waiting for the next appointment.

Contact the surgical team promptly for fever, worsening facial swelling, pus, foul taste, increasing pain, a new bite change, or redness spreading around an incision.
