What should you know about thrush body rash?

Candida can multiply where warmth and moisture collect, such as the groin, armpits, under the breasts, or between abdominal folds. The skin may look red, sore, shiny, or cracked, with itching or burning. Small spots around the main irritated area can occur. A rash on the body is not automatically thrush: contact dermatitis, heat rash, intertrigo, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies, and atopic dermatitis may produce overlapping changes.

Keep the area gently clean and thoroughly dry, choosing loose, breathable clothing and changing damp garments promptly. Avoid fragranced products and scratching. A pharmacist or clinician can advise whether an antifungal cream is suitable and how long to use it; follow the product directions and avoid putting steroid cream on a suspected fungal rash unless advised. If the rash keeps returning, mention possible triggers such as sweating, friction, diabetes, antibiotics, or immune problems.

Arrange medical assessment if the rash is spreading, very painful, cracked, oozing, recurrent, or not settling with appropriate care. Seek urgent help for rapidly worsening redness, marked swelling, pus, fever, feeling faint, or involvement of the eyes, mouth, or genitals. Babies, people with diabetes, and anyone with reduced immunity should seek advice early.
