Thermage for cellulite: what to know

Cellulite reflects the way fat compartments, connective bands, skin thickness, and tissue fluid interact. It can appear on the thighs, buttocks, hips, or other areas, including in people with different body shapes. Radiofrequency heat may make the surface feel or look firmer and may soften some uneven texture, but the effect depends on the depth and structure of the dimpling.

A consultation should identify whether lax skin, tethering bands, or another surface change is most prominent. A treatment aimed only at tightening may not address a deep indentation, and improvement can fade as the skin and tissue change over time.

Have the area assessed in a standing position and discuss your preferred outcome rather than promising a particular result. Tell the practitioner about pregnancy, implanted devices, metal, reduced sensation, active infection, scars, and medicines that affect healing. Heat-based treatment can cause temporary warmth, redness, swelling, tenderness, or sensitivity changes.

Ask whether Carboxytherapy, Radiofrequency Skin Tightening, RF Microneedling, or Subcision addresses the suspected cause more directly. Subcision, for example, is designed to release selected fibrous attachments, while energy treatments focus on tissue heating or remodelling.

Report increasing pain, blistering, marked swelling, drainage, fever, or a persistent change in skin colour to the treating clinic. Urgent assessment is needed for rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction. Avoid rubbing or adding unapproved products while the area recovers.
