The system does not operate independently. A trained surgeon sits at a console, views the operating area through a magnified three-dimensional camera, and moves the instrument arms using hand controls. The instruments can make precise movements inside the body through small access points, depending on the operation.

For cancer care, robotic assistance may be considered when the tumour location and the planned procedure make this approach suitable. It is a method for delivering surgery, not a separate type of cancer or a guarantee of a particular result.

Ask which operation is being proposed, why robotic assistance fits your anatomy and diagnosis, and whether an open or standard minimally invasive approach is also appropriate. Discuss anaesthesia, expected hospital monitoring, possible drains or catheters, and how activity will be limited while you recover.

After surgery, seek urgent medical advice for trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, heavy bleeding, a rapidly worsening wound, or inability to pass urine. Contact the surgical team promptly for fever, increasing abdominal or pelvic pain, repeated vomiting, or redness and discharge around an incision.
