What should you know about TENS 7000 2nd Edition?

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. A handheld control unit delivers pulses through adhesive pads placed on intact skin near, or sometimes around, a painful area. The sensation may feel like tingling or tapping; it should not be sharply painful or feel like burning. TENS can change how pain signals are experienced for some people, while the underlying cause still needs assessment. Relief may vary between people and may not continue after the device is switched off. The second-edition label identifies a product version, not a diagnosis or a promise of benefit.

Read the manufacturer’s instructions before the first session and check that the leads, pads, battery, and controls are in good condition. Clean and dry the skin, then place pads only where instructed by a physiotherapist or other qualified clinician. Start at a low intensity and increase gradually only to a comfortable tingling level. Keep the device switched off while attaching, moving, or removing pads. Do not place electrodes over broken, infected, numb, or irritated skin, or across the front of the neck, head, or chest. Avoid using it while driving, bathing, sleeping, or operating machinery. Remove pads if the skin becomes sore, blistered, or persistently red.

Stop using the unit and seek prompt medical advice if it causes worsening pain, a burn, marked skin irritation, dizziness, palpitations, unusual weakness, or new numbness. Urgent assessment is needed for sudden severe pain, new loss of bladder or bowel control, rapidly increasing weakness, or pain after a serious injury. Arrange a clinical review if pain is unexplained, keeps returning, limits walking or daily tasks, or does not improve with the plan you were given. Do not use TENS over an implanted electronic device or during pregnancy unless the clinician managing your care has specifically approved the placement and settings.

Ask which body area and electrode pattern fit your diagnosis, how long each session should last, and what intensity is appropriate. Confirm whether TENS is suitable with a pacemaker, implanted pump, reduced sensation, epilepsy, pregnancy, or skin problems. Ask how to clean and store the pads, when to replace them, and what symptoms mean you should stop.
