What should you know about tenofovir hepatitis C?

Hepatitis C is a viral infection that can inflame the liver and may cause no obvious symptoms for a long time. When symptoms occur, tiredness, nausea, reduced appetite, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes may appear. Fatigue has many possible causes and does not identify hepatitis C by itself.

Tenofovir is used in selected care plans for other viral infections, particularly hepatitis B or HIV. A medicine that acts on one virus should not be assumed to treat another. The correct choice for hepatitis C depends on confirming active infection, reviewing liver health, other medicines, pregnancy considerations, kidney function, and previous treatment.

Arrange a GP or liver-specialist consultation if you have a positive screening result, a possible exposure, or unexplained liver-test changes. Ask which tests confirm active infection and whether your medicines or supplements need review. Do not start, stop, or substitute tenofovir without the prescriber's advice. Avoid sharing razors, toothbrushes, or needles, and ask about practical steps that reduce blood exposure while your results are being clarified.

Seek urgent medical help for confusion, unusual sleepiness, vomiting blood, black stools, severe abdominal swelling, or rapidly worsening yellow skin or eyes. Contact a clinician promptly if you develop significant fatigue, dark urine, pale stools, abdominal pain, or nausea after a possible exposure. A Liver Function Test can show liver irritation, but it cannot by itself confirm or exclude active hepatitis C.
