How to find a TB test nearby

Ask whether the service provides an IGRA blood test, a Mantoux skin test, or both. A skin test usually requires a second visit so a trained professional can assess the skin reaction. Tell the service why testing is needed, such as recent contact, workplace screening, travel documentation or a planned medicine that affects immunity.

Local availability does not change how results are interpreted. A positive result points to TB infection and may lead to a clinical review for active disease. A Chest X-Ray can be part of that review, but it does not replace the initial conversation about symptoms and exposure.

When contacting a clinic, have your identification, referral or form if required, previous TB results, exposure dates and a list of medicines ready. Confirm whether fasting is needed; it is not usually required for the standard TB blood test, but the service can give its own instructions. Keep any return appointment and ask when results will be discussed.

If you are arranging testing because of symptoms or a known contact, mention this when booking so the clinician can decide whether you need an assessment sooner than routine screening. Tuberculosis Screening may include more than one test.
