What should you know about syphilis on the back?

Until reviewed, avoid sexual contact if an STI is possible, and follow the clinician’s instructions if testing confirms syphilis.

Seek prompt care for a spreading rash with a painless genital, anal, or mouth sore, swollen glands, or fever. Get urgent help for eye redness with visual change, hearing symptoms, severe headache, confusion, weakness, or problems with balance. Pregnancy or a recent partner diagnosis should prompt timely testing even if the back rash is mild.
