Swollen ankle after a mosquito bite

Bite saliva can trigger itching, redness, and puffiness around the ankle. Swelling may look larger on the foot because standing allows fluid to collect there. Increasing warmth, tenderness, pus, or redness that extends beyond the bite can indicate a skin infection rather than a simple local reaction. Ankle Sprain, Ankle Fracture, Gout, and Ankle Osteoarthritis are separate causes of ankle swelling and become more relevant if there was injury, severe joint pain, or no clear skin bite.

Wash the area gently, use a cool compress wrapped in cloth, and elevate the foot when resting. Keep fingernails short and avoid breaking the skin by scratching. Marking the edge of redness can help you notice whether it is spreading.

Arrange prompt medical review if the ankle becomes increasingly hot and painful, redness spreads, pus appears, fever develops, or walking becomes difficult.
