Sun stroke first aid

Heat stroke is a medical emergency in which the body becomes dangerously overheated. The person may be confused, faint, unusually drowsy, unsteady, or unable to speak normally. Skin can feel hot and may be dry or sweaty. Do not assume that the problem is ordinary sunburn or simple tiredness. A stroke affecting the brain can also cause sudden weakness, speech difficulty, or numbness; these signs need emergency assessment, even when heat exposure is present.

Call emergency services and stay with the person. Move them into shade or an air-conditioned place, remove extra clothing, and cool the skin with water, wet cloths, or cool packs wrapped in fabric. Fan the skin while cooling. If they are awake and able to swallow, offer small sips of water; never force fluids. Do not give drinks to someone who is confused, vomiting, having a seizure, or unconscious, and do not leave them alone to recover.

Get emergency help immediately for confusion, collapse, seizure, severe weakness, breathing difficulty, or a very hot body. Keep cooling while waiting. Sudden facial drooping, one-sided weakness, or trouble speaking may indicate Stroke and should be reported clearly. After recovery, arrange a GP Consultation if symptoms return, the person has a medical condition, or medicines may affect heat tolerance.

Ask which warning signs should trigger emergency help, whether any regular medicines increase heat risk, and how to plan fluids, shade, and activity during hot weather.
