Sun Bum mineral face sunscreen: what to know

Mineral sunscreen, sometimes called physical sunscreen, commonly uses zinc oxide to sit on the skin and help reduce ultraviolet exposure. A facial formula may be designed for a lighter feel or cosmetic finish, but the label still matters: check the stated protection, directions, and whether it suits your skin. No sunscreen replaces shade, protective clothing, or avoiding intense direct sun.

Apply to clean, dry exposed skin before going outdoors, including easily missed areas such as the ears, hairline, neck, and tops of the feet. Blend gently rather than rubbing until the product pills. Reapply following the label, and sooner after swimming, towelling, or heavy sweating. Patch-test a new facial product on a small area if your skin reacts easily, and keep it away from the eyes.

Stop using the product and seek medical advice if you develop marked swelling, blistering, facial hives, persistent burning, or eye symptoms. If a rash continues after washing the product off, a clinician can assess whether it is irritation, allergy, or another facial skin condition.
