Sudocrem for teething rash: what to know

Teething can increase drooling. Repeated wetness, wiping, and saliva contact may leave the chin, cheeks, or neck red and sore. A barrier cream can reduce contact between saliva and the skin, but it does not prove that teething is the only explanation.

A rash that extends beyond drool-exposed areas, becomes intensely itchy, develops scale or crust, or continues despite gentle care may reflect Contact Dermatitis, Atopic Dermatitis, Heat Rash, or another condition. A medicine-related eruption also needs assessment as Drug Rash.

Rinse or dab away saliva with lukewarm water, pat dry, and apply a very thin layer to clean, intact skin if the product label permits use for your child’s age. Keep it away from the mouth, eyes, and broken skin. Use a soft bib, change it when damp, and avoid fragranced wipes or repeated scrubbing. Stop if the skin becomes more inflamed.

Seek urgent help if the child has breathing difficulty, facial swelling, unusual sleepiness, widespread blistering, or a rash with fever and an unwell appearance. Arrange a clinician review for pus, honey-coloured crusting, marked pain, rapid spread, or a rash that does not improve after drooling is controlled.
