Steroid Triamcinolone Acetonide: What to Know

Triamcinolone acetonide reduces inflammatory immune signals that contribute to redness, swelling, and itching. It may be supplied as a topical preparation or used by a trained clinician as an intralesional treatment, where medicine is placed into a selected skin lesion. Use only the formulation and schedule prescribed, applying a thin layer to the named areas when it is a topical product. Keep it away from the eyes and do not cover treated skin with an airtight dressing unless instructed. Do not share the medicine or use an old tube for a new rash. Tell the clinician about facial treatment, pregnancy, children, thin or damaged skin, and any history of skin infection. For an injection, follow aftercare instructions and avoid rubbing the treated spot.

Contact the prescriber if burning, thinning, easy bruising, colour change, new spots, or worsening inflammation develops. Seek prompt care for pus, spreading warmth, severe pain, fever, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. After an injection, increasing swelling, drainage, or a sore that does not improve needs assessment. Do not treat these changes by repeating a dose.
