During spirometry, you breathe through a mouthpiece while the device captures the speed and amount of air leaving your lungs. The result is influenced by effort, posture, mouthpiece seal, symptoms, and medicines. A clinician looks for a meaningful pattern rather than relying on one isolated display value.

Smart connectivity can make it easier to save or share readings when your care team has advised this. It does not make the measurement self-explanatory, and it cannot identify every cause of cough or breathlessness.

Choose a stable position and follow the exact breathing sequence taught by your clinician. Breathe in as instructed, seal your lips, then blow hard and long enough for the requested attempt. Allow yourself to recover between efforts if needed. Clean reusable parts as directed and check that the mouthpiece and device are intact. Keep a note of symptoms and medicine timing when your clinician asks for a record.

Call for urgent medical help if breathing becomes severe or rapidly worse, you feel faint or confused, your lips look blue or grey, or you cannot speak comfortably. A device reading must not delay emergency assessment. For less urgent concerns, contact the clinician who supplied the monitoring plan.
