TCA is different from milder acids such as glycolic acid, and the correct choice depends on the concern, skin tone, active inflammation, and history of dark marks.

Tell the clinician about retinoids, exfoliants, recent waxing, cold sores, pregnancy, active rash, and previous pigment changes. Do not apply a home peel over irritated or sunburned skin.
