Asteatotic Eczema can make dry skin cracked and itchy, while Atopic Dermatitis often causes recurring itch and inflammation. Contact Dermatitis may match an area touched by a product or material. Hives are raised and can change location. Scabies often produces marked nighttime itch and may affect close contacts. Lichen Planus can create persistent itchy bumps, and Psoriasis may bring thicker scaly plaques. Skin Yeast Infection is more likely in warm, moist areas than on a dry outer arm. A visual examination helps separate these possibilities.

Use lukewarm water, a gentle fragrance-free cleanser, and a thick plain moisturiser after washing. Keep nails short and apply a cool compress instead of rubbing. Record new soaps, creams, medicines, plants, pets, travel, and whether anyone close to you is itchy. Avoid borrowing steroid or antibiotic creams, because the wrong treatment can alter the appearance or worsen some infections.

Get urgent help for breathing difficulty, throat or facial swelling, faintness, rapidly spreading rash, fever with illness, severe tenderness, or purple-looking spots that do not fade when pressed. Book an appointment if itch disrupts sleep, the rash persists, spreads, becomes crusted, or returns without a clear trigger.
